Marcel’s career spans over 20 years and includes senior and executive management roles in domestic and international organizations with his latest assignments as Vice President Operations for Kern-Liebers GmbH, a globally operating German automotive Tier 2 company in the NAFTA region (Mexican Maquiladora) and as Vice President Manufacturing North America Operations managing manufacturing plants in Texas, North Carolina and Mexico for Baumann Federn, a privately-owned, multinational company headquartered in Switzerland. Although Baumann’s main focus concentrated heavily on the automotive sector, too (OEM and Tier 1 supplier), products were also manufactured for a variety of other industries such as medical applications, aerospace, electronics/electrical, outdoor & recreation, consumer goods and industrial.
Working in the U.S., Latin America and Europe has given Marcel the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of different cultures, mentalities, values and thought processes; this, combined with his own education and values, has allowed him to form multi-cultural teams which completed very successfully projects such as division and plant start-ups, production and division transfers and plant closings. He is fully tri-lingual (English, Spanish and German).
Throughout the years his focus has always been on operational excellence, business development, increasing efficiency and productivity, reducing waste and improving the organization’s bottom line.
Marcel’s professional and technical expertise encompasses all functional areas of an enterprise such as finance (P&L, budgeting), human resource, supply chain, engineering, quality, manufacturing, customer service and sales & business development.
He acquired broad knowledge in a number of industries such as Automotive, Industrial (Metal, Electrical/Optical Components, Contract Manufacturing and Job Shop), Plastics, Textile, Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Manufacturing.
Abundant experience in a variety of commodities such as precision machining, stamping, fiber optics, assembly etc. in high and low volume environments gives him the edge to always apply best practices, get to the real problem and come up with durable solutions.
Marcel is a graduate of the University of Applied Science (“HSR Hochschule für Technik”), Rapperswil Switzerland and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Before going to College, he finished a 4-year apprenticeship in his hometown St.Gallen, Switzerland and graduated with a professional Diploma in “Technical Design”. This included a full year working in a tool room operating equipments such as lathe, milling and drilling machines, grinder, EDM (wire and sink) etc. and spending 3 months at a foundry.
After applying LEAN and Six Sigma principles for the last 13 years in different industry sectors, he decided to give his expertise an official touch and joined Villanova University’s Master Six Sigma certification program. He already received his Green Belt, LEAN and Black Belt Certificate of Achievement and is currently in process of becoming a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CLSSBB).
